It’s evident that we are a nation driven by consumerism, with Black Friday and Cyber Monday dominating headlines and filling our social media feeds year after year. However, there’s another shopping occasion worthy of your attention—#FairTuesday is here once again, inviting us to shop with purpose!
What is #FairTuesday?
This year, #FairTuesday is set for December 3.
Initially launched in 2012, #FairTuesday was conceived as a response to the major shopping events of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This initiative highlights brands that embrace fair trade, ethical practices, and eco-friendly methods, encouraging businesses to integrate these values into their operations. By participating in #FairTuesday, we can raise awareness of our purchasing choices and illustrate how everyday consumer actions can contribute to positive change in the world!
In its inaugural year, #FairTuesday united 135 partners across 13 countries, engaging 3 million individuals within just five weeks! How many participants will join in this year?
How can you shop responsibly?
Once upon a time, sourcing ethical products required extensive effort. Nowadays, it’s much easier if you know what to seek!
- Examine the label. Ethical brands take pride in their commitment to sustainability! Typically, certifications are clearly displayed on all qualifying products, reflecting the standards set by the certifying organization.
- Conduct your research. It’s no secret that different certifications highlight distinct sustainable and ethical practices. Determine which certifications align with your personal values and objectives.
- Share the kindness! Choose ethical or environmentally-friendly gifts for family and friends. Why not consider some Salt Spring Coffee for the coffee lover in your life? Or a selection of Endangered Species Chocolate for that dessert enthusiast?
