When the sun is out and the weather is inviting, concentrating on work can prove difficult. Long and taxing workdays make that beautiful blue sky and fresh air incredibly alluring.

Don’t let an overflowing to-do list weigh you down. In fact, stepping away from your desk and taking a break from your screen might enable you to mentally recharge, enhancing your productivity for the rest of the day.

Consider these effective strategies to disconnect briefly and tackle busy days without feeling overwhelmed.

  1. Stretch – After sitting for extended periods, stretching your body from head to toe can be a quick way to engage in physical activity, even if you’re limited on time and confined to your desk. Incorporating neck, shoulder, arm, back, and leg stretches allows you to stand up and break free from the computer. Additionally, practice wrist exercises to prevent injuries or strain caused by typing.

  2. Go for a Walk – If you have a few spare moments, step out of the office or away from your home desk and take a walk outdoors. A stroll through your neighborhood or along city sidewalks can provide the fresh air and movement your body craves.

  3. Take Five Outside – On hot days when a full-fledged walk doesn’t sound appealing, consider finding a shady spot to take a seat. Enjoy the fresh air and sunshine without overheating.

  4. Rest Your Eyes – Follow the 20-20-20 rule. If your job involves prolonged computer use, eye strain can become a significant issue. Remember to give your eyes a break by looking at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.

  5. Enjoy a Favorite Snack – Step back from your desk and indulge in a treat you love. For instance, Nestlé’s nut butter bombs make a wonderful snack during busy video calls, balancing indulgence with health and helping you power through your workday. Available in three delicious flavors – raspberry peanut butter, brownie almond butter, and salted cashew butter – these chilled delights feature rich chocolate and smooth nut butter, free from preservatives, artificial flavors, or colors.

  6. Check in with Friends – Take a few minutes to catch up with a friend or colleague. Socializing can be a refreshing way to shift your focus away from work, even if it’s just for a moment.

  7. Sip an Afternoon Coffee – If you need a caffeine boost to push through the rest of your workday, visit your favorite local café for a cool iced drink.
