Nourished by Faith, Balanced by Time

Dallas resident Suzy Harmon is savoring every moment of life – a healthy moment – merging her skills and knowledge as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and author of Hungry for Health, Starved for Time with insights on achieving a balanced life.

“I want to understand the ‘whys’ of my clients; why do they want to lose weight, why do they seek health, and why do they desire to live,” said Harmon, who hails from New York and made Dallas her home in 1996. Once a CPA who swapped managing financial spreadsheets for preparing healthy treats, she now embodies a lifestyle that promotes conscious wellness. “People genuinely wish to be well. They often perceive it as overly complicated, pricey, or time-consuming, which is usually not the case.”

The wife of Andy and the mother of Bradley, Zach, and Lindsay, Harmon spent over 20 years as a CPA, reflecting that she and her peers often prioritized financial stability over their well-being. Following the death of her father in 2008, she experienced weight gain, insomnia, skin and hair difficulties, and relied on medication for concentration and sleep. A simple online search eventually led her to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. With a click, she enrolled in a course, initiating a transformative journey that has positively impacted her life and the lives of many others, including those she had yet to meet.

Determined to effect change, Harmon pursued her passion for health, nutrition, and wellness, becoming a Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. She developed a curriculum that offers her clients support in areas such as positive nutrition, lifestyle choices, personal relationships, career aspirations, financial well-being, and realizing their potential.

Embracing the philosophy “your greatest wealth is your health,” Harmonious Health is evident through her book, blog, recipes, classes, grocery store tours, lunch and learn sessions, cooking demonstrations, and training programs for corporations.

“I authored this book to broaden my outreach, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive,” remarked the first-time author. “I cherish the one-on-one connections with my clients, but I also sought to extend my reach.”

In Hungry for Health, Starved for Time, an accessible 143-page read comprised of standalone chapters, Harmon categorizes healthy living habits into five segments: home environment, nutrition, body care, cooking, and mindset. The focus lies not on honing in on a single area for success, but on a holistic respect for nurturing one’s entire self.

Her website, SuzyHarmoniousHealth.com, delights food lovers with delicious recipes found in her blog, sure to spark a healthy enthusiasm. From Spaghetti Squash Pasta with Meat Sauce to Homemade All Natural Snack Bars, Green Chile Chicken to Dessert Date Bars, Harmon presents options that make the journey to good health enjoyable, delicious, and a “want to” rather than a “have to.”

Planning, shopping, and creating are all integral parts of the journey – cherished memories she first made in the kitchens of her mother and grandmother. “It’s perfectly fine to seek comfort in food; however, there’s immense value in discovering that comfort through the process of preparing the food, cooking it, and understanding its contents,” Harmon shared. “We truly find nourishment through the aromas, the beautiful presentation of a meal, and the gratitude we express for what we have. You won’t experience genuine comfort in a bag of chips – or in excess. My aim is to inspire more individuals to relish their time in the kitchen, preparing wholesome meals, showing them how straightforward it can be with a touch of planning.”

Her methodology encompasses not just diet or exercise, but an all-encompassing education in wellness. “Many of us examine the ingredients in the foods we purchase, but how often do we consider what’s present in our soaps, lotions, shampoos, and other personal care items?” she questioned, emphasizing that our skin is one of our largest organs, absorbing all that it encounters. “We must be aware not only of what we consume but also of what we absorb through our skin into our bloodstream.”

In addition to her individual coaching sessions, Harmon has reached out to high school students and seniors, imparting insights from her book and her experiences. She discusses how to make healthy choices in dining halls and dorms while teaching them stress-reduction techniques to help sidestep the “freshman 15.”

“I never anticipated the variety of topics that would arise during health coaching sessions with clients, but as we delve into health and nutrition, many deep-seated personal matters surface, shedding light on questions about living a happy and fulfilling life,” shared Harmon. “I’ve grown passionate about how healthy living can infuse our lives with vibrancy. What nourishes us also nourishes our souls, and it’s vital to learn how to connect these aspects for success in our careers, relationships, and life’s purpose.”
