**A Journey to Voices**

By Sheryl Lilly Pidgeon | Publisher and Editor-In-Chief

People often ask me about the origin of this magazine. It’s not a simple story, as illustrated during a recent meeting with a potential advertiser, which turned into a four-hour discussion that bonded us as friends. We explored our complex childhood experiences, shared our hopeful outlooks, our resilience in the face of challenges, our dedication to providing a stable and joyful life for our children, and our appreciation for the chance to embrace the positive aspects of life.

As a youngster, I was raised with the notion of being seen but not heard. That was the norm. Curiously, I grew up in Northampton, Massachusetts, merely a mile from Smith College, close to several of the world’s most progressive educational institutions. However, at home, it was a different story: “old school” principles prevailed. Keep your head down, work hard, return before dark. Finish all your food. Don’t question authority. Avoid standing out.

I eventually discovered my voice through a turbulent journey that included a bold decision at 15 to live with my father in Houston, several impressive therapists, a journalism degree from UT Austin, and an up-and-down career in advertising, PR, and marketing. Much to the dismay of numerous friends, I haven’t stopped talking since.

**The Power of Communication**

Luminaries like Barbara Walters, Oprah Winfrey, and Ellen DeGeneres have paved the way for open dialogue. Each of us has something to express and longs to be acknowledged. Communication is a two-way street found at the crossroads of ‘Listen’ and ‘Learn.’ In my roles as a parent, partner, daughter, friend, advocate, and fellow human, I’ve come to understand that our stories—our legacies—are significant, and they have the power to inspire and transform lives.

**The Mission Behind Good Life Family**

Ultimately, this is the reason I publish Good Life Family. I want us to continue conversing, sharing, reaching out, and finding healing in our stories of inspiration, encouragement, and redemption.

Our magazine may be small, but our hearts are vast. Our dedicated team works diligently to produce a publication we take pride in sharing with you. Wealth here doesn’t stem from financial gain; it comes from knowing that our work is impactful. It is truly a privilege to offer goodLIFEfamilymag.com and Good Life Family Weekly to our readership.

If you are one of our advertising partners, we appreciate you joining us on this journey.

**Our Commitment to You**

We recognize that there are larger platforms available for you to connect with your audience, but we assure you that no one is more devoted to representing your narrative.
