There’s something unique about a family movie night. Here’s a fun concept to transform the big screen experience into your backyard.

Staging the pool movie is simpler than you might think.
1. The A/V: To show a film in your yard, you’ll need a projector, a screen, and speakers. You can use a large, white sheet as a makeshift screen and either rent or buy a projector. Better yet, visit Starpower to get your own home theater setup. Typically, they offer delivery within 24 hours. And their award-winning installers are not just recognized as the “Best In America,” they also happen to be incredibly friendly.
2. The seating: Throw in some water chairs, inner tubes, or floats in the pool, and also provide dry seating options for your guests.
TIP: Have stacks of towels, pillows, and blankets ready for comfort after swimming. Depending on the weather, your guests may want to stay in the pool for the entire showing or just for the start of the film.
3. Keep your guest list in mind when choosing the movie. If your gathering has a lot of sci-fi enthusiasts, consider a classic alien invasion movie or a Star Trek feature. For a group of teenage girls, a fun musical—whether old or new—could be a hit. Additionally, there’s something enjoyable about watching a silly movie about man-eating sharks or piranhas while floating in the water.
4. Create a concession area in your kitchen or on the patio. Pop some popcorn or purchase a large bag, then use individual popcorn boxes (available at Party City or other party supply retailers). Stock up on large boxes of Milk Duds, Hot Tamales, and include other movie classics like pizza, hot dogs, and pretzels.
5. Invite other families to join the excitement!
