Ingredients:
1 box chocolate cake mix
10 chocolate creme cookies
1 cup black melting chips
1 cup red melting chips
1 cup heavy whipping cream
3 cans buttercream icing
1 purple food coloring
1 black food coloring
Skull sprinkles
Tombstone and bone candies
Instructions:
1. Prepare the cake mix as directed on the package, dividing it among three 6-inch baking pans. Once baked, allow the cakes to cool completely outside the pans.
2. In a zip-top bag, use a rolling pin to crush the chocolate creme cookies and set aside.
3. In separate small bowls, place the black melting chips and red melting chips.
4. Heat the heavy whipping cream in the microwave for 1 ½ minutes. Pour half of the cream into one bowl of chips and the remaining half into the other bowl. Stir until the chips are fully melted and set aside.
5. Once the cakes are cooled, place a small amount of buttercream icing on the cake board to help the cake stick. Use a bread knife to level the tops of the cakes.
6. Set one cake layer on the cake board and spread a thin layer of icing on top. Add the second cake layer and apply another thin layer of icing. Place the final layer of cake on top and add a thin layer of icing over the entire cake. Freeze the cake for 15 minutes.
7. In a small bowl, combine two parts purple food coloring with one part black food coloring. Ice the cake with deep purple icing. Use a grooved scraper to texture the sides of the cake, and an angled spatula to smooth the top.
8. Decorate the edges of the cake with skull sprinkles. Use a piping bag with a small tip to drip the black melting mixture along the top edges. Repeat with the red melting mixture.
9. Sprinkle chocolate creme cookie crumbs over the top of the cake. Finally, adorn it with tombstone and bone sprinkles.
