Orange Juice Biscuits

Orange Butter Sauce:

1 1/2 cups Florida Orange Juice

2 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Orange Biscuits:

1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar

2 teaspoons grated orange zest

2 cups bleached all-purpose flour, plus extra for kneading

1 2/3 tablespoons baking powder

3/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup whole milk

1/4 cup Florida Orange Juice

To prepare the orange butter sauce: Boil the orange juice for 5 minutes or until it has reduced by half. Incorporate butter and stir until melted. Remove from heat.

To create the orange biscuits: Preheat the oven to 425°F.

Rub sugar and zest together with your fingers until the mixture resembles moist sand.

In a large bowl, combine the orange sugar, 2 cups of flour, baking powder, and salt. Using two forks or a pastry blender, incorporate shortening until the mixture resembles small peas.

Mix together the milk and orange juice, then blend this into the flour mixture to form a sticky dough.

Transfer the dough to a well-floured surface. Sprinkle flour on top and knead the dough about six times, folding it in half and using more flour as necessary.

Flatten the dough to a thickness of 3/4 inch. Use a round cutter, dipped in flour, to cut out biscuits, pressing straight down without twisting.

Arrange the biscuits close together but not touching on a baking sheet.

Gather scraps of dough, fold them 2-3 times, pat them out again, and cut more biscuits. Continue until all dough is used.

Brush the tops with the orange butter sauce. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden.

Serve warm or at room temperature alongside the remaining sauce.
