Life-Altering Moments
The trajectory of one’s life can shift drastically in a moment. In July 2003, during his final year of college, Donald Hooton, Jr. was gearing up to launch a career with his business degree. It was then he received the devastating news from his sister that their 17-year-old brother Taylor had died. The most shocking revelation for the family was that Taylor had taken his own life. They were left with a singular, haunting question: Why?
Discovery of Steroid Use
Detectives found steroids in Taylor’s room after his passing. Initially, the Hooton family did not grasp the significance of this discovery, but over time they educated themselves on the effects of steroid usage and its correlation with mental health issues, including suicide. They realized that the prevalence of steroid use is likely greater than most people understand.
Turning Tragedy into Impact
In their time of sorrow, the family could not have envisioned how their experience could contribute positively to the lives of others. Now, Donald dedicates himself each day to honoring his brother’s memory as the leader of the Taylor Hooton Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by his father, Don.
