Rush is an exciting time! Each college has its own procedures, but there are many similarities. Some take a more relaxed approach while others are quite formal. While some begin in August, others kick off in the spring. Most colleges feature a Panhellenic website that outlines the process and offers outfit suggestions for each day. Ensure you submit all recommendations to Panhellenic on time and enjoy the experience!

It’s essential for both you and your daughter to remain open-minded. For instance, your experience in a Pi Phi at Ole Miss may differ greatly from that at the University of Michigan. It’s crucial that your daughter finds a sorority that aligns with her personality.

Outfits worn to prom or homecoming may not be appropriate for rush. Think of it as “luncheon attire” rather than short shorts or revealing dresses.

Consider enlisting a third party to alleviate the pressure of choosing appropriate outfits. It’s vital to maintain a peaceful relationship between mother and daughter, and professional guidance can be invaluable. The goal is to savor the process and let your daughter shine!

The examples I’ve provided are tailored to the rush schedule at the University of Texas:

DAY ONE | Open House

Welcome to your first day of rush! It’s a busy day filled with visits to all the sorority houses. You will receive a t-shirt, and it’s best to pair it with your favorite shorts and comfortable shoes. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen!

DAY TWO | Philanthropy Day

On your second day, you’ll visit a few sorority houses and learn about their community projects. A lovely sundress paired with cute wedges is a great choice, and don’t forget to bring a comfy pair of flats for walking between houses.

Dress – Parker New York, or any store in your favorite malls that carries Parker
White wedges – Burberry

DAY THREE | Skit Night

By the third day, you will have narrowed down to your top 3-4 favorite houses. Tonight, each one will entertain you with a fun skit. Opt for a fabulous cocktail dress, and don’t forget those comfortable shoes for all the walking, plus your favorite lipstick!
