Steroid Use Risks Explored: Episode 8 of That's A Good Question! Podcast
Donald Hooton, Jr.

The course of your life can change directions in an instant. In July 2003, during his final year at college, Donald Hooton, Jr. was on the verge of beginning his career with a business degree. Then he received a devastating call from his sister: their 17-year-old brother Taylor had died. What struck their family the hardest was the revelation that Taylor had taken his own life. Their only question was, “Why?”

It was the detectives who discovered the steroids in Taylor’s room. At that moment, the Hooton family had not yet made the connection but have since learned the disturbing realities surrounding steroid use, including its psychological consequences, and its association with suicide. They now understand the widespread nature of steroid use, which is likely far more common than most people realize.

Amidst their sorrow, the family could not have foreseen the profound impact their tragedy would have in bettering the lives of countless others. Donald now dedicates his life to honoring his brother’s memory as the leader of the Taylor Hooton Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded by their father, Don.

This pivotal podcast features Donald, Jr., sharing how he transforms his family’s heartbreak into triumph for families both nationally and internationally.

Donald thinks about his brother daily. “I hope he’s proud of the work we’re doing and what his legacy has become, especially how many lives have been saved,” he reflects. “Every time his story is told, I hope it makes a difference.”
